Welcome to the Mid-Atlantic Wildfire Training Academy
The Mid-Atlantic Forest Fire Compact, in conjunction with West Virginia University Division of Forestry & Natural Resources, Morgantown, WV, the USDA Forest Service and the USDI National Park Service, is presenting the fifth annual Mid-Atlantic Wildfire Training Academy June 4th-10th, 2011.
The Academy will offer a spectrum of classes in essential wildland firefighting skills, from basic to advanced levels. The courses will meet the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) standards, and upon successful completion of the class a student will receive a NWCG certificate. The instructors are NWCG certified and will be from states in the Mid-Atlantic area.
The classes will be held on the campus of WVU and are limited in size to promote the best learning experience. Several of the courses have pre-course work that the student must complete before attending the class. All classes will include either written or practical tests used to judge the student’s comprehension of the subject matter.
Continuing Forestry Education (CFE) Credits
The purpose of the Continuing Forestry Education Program developed and implemented by the Society of American Foresters (SAF) is to provide foresters with recognition for expanding upon professional knowledge. CFE’s are obtained by completing organized course work. With the approval of the SAF, CFE hours will be earned after the completion of your course.
